Message	The air coming through the wastegate is generally straight. The air coming off the turbine is generally spinning very fast. Spinning air doesn't like straight air, so when they meet in a single tube downpipes, they fight, causing a lot of turbulance which slows down the turbine a little. Split downpipes give the spinning exhaust gasses time to straighten out a little before introducing them to the wastegate gasses (and it does so further away from the turbo, so any turbulance is remote), resulting in ~500rpm better spooling.
